Handmade Katya moonstone 18” necklace featuring 14 kt gold filled or sterling silver cable chain and freshwater pearl clasp.
The Katya style is named for Katya Echazarreta, an electrical engineer and the first Mexican-born woman in space. Katya moved to the United States at age 7 where her first challenge was to learn English. She went on to earn a BS in electrical engineering at UCLA where she interned at NASA and eventually worked full time after graduating. Katya has worked on five NASA missions and was among the six person crew selected from over 7,000 applicants to be a Space for Humanity Ambassador. She and the other five ambassadors flew to space with Blue Origin in June 2022. Katya is currently pursuing a Master's degree in electrical and computer engineering at John’s Hopkins University.
