Handmade Ynés porcelain earrings in the spotted gold pattern, featuring 14 kt gold filled or sterling silver hooks.
The Ynés style is named for Ynés Mexía, on of the most accomplished and prolific female botanists of her time. Born in 1870 as the daughter of a Mexican diplomat, she spent time in both Mexico and the United States studying plants and nature. She enrolled at UC Berkeley at age 51 where she was introduced to botany on a university expedition. Mexía wasn't afraid to venture alone into remote parts of North and South America, including Mt. McKinley National Park in Alaska, as well as in Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Chile, Ecuador, and Tierra del Fuego in Argentina. In a 13-year career, Mexía collected more than 145,000 plant specimens and discovered 500 new species, of which several are named in her honor.
All pieces are created from start to finish in my home studio, nestled in one of Richland's historic "Alphabet Houses". The JH atomic logo is a nod to the history and science of the area.
